The big move date has come and gone, and we are now in our new home. Packing can take days, and it did for me. Besides being overwhelemd with packing up all this stuff we own, Emma and I both became sick this past week. Fortunately, we got a little help with packing, and hired professional movers for the big day. It took a large truck and a half just to move our furnitures and boxes I had managed to pack before the move day! With 3 men, it took only 5 hours for the loading and unloading. We then spent the remainder of the evening shuttling back and forth in a rented cargo van ($17.99 per day from Enterprise!) moving odds and ends that didn't make the truck earlier in the day.
Although we only took possession of the house on Wednesday afternoon, we managed to have our air ducts cleaned, get a general cleaning of the empty house, and have several rooms painted (with the rest to be finished on Tuesday). We utilized a service called The Color Coach to pick out new colors for the whole house. We spent about an hour and a half between the old and new houses - without my having to spend hours pouring over tiny paint chips. After the session, we received a full worksheet showing colors and sheen in each room, and 5 x 8 paint cards of our chosen colors. It was money and time well-spent. Curtis was especially happy about it, and is looking forward to seeing the results of the face lift.
We spent the first two days getting the kitchen organized, which was good because we were able to have a couple of good Korean meals today. My mom, who is here to help with the move, has been SO MUCH help - I don't know how we would have managed without her.
We look forward to having boxes out of the way, and settling into our new home. We hope lots of people will come visit us.
