Emma's 6-month check-up

Emma had her six-month check-up and immunizations on Thursday afternoon. Curtis finished up meetings out of the office early, so he met us for the appointment.

Emma weighed 14 lbs. 6.5 oz (50th percentile) and measured 25 1/4 inches long (75th percentile). She seemed to get that she was somewhere that she does not enjoy and was quite restless while we were waiting for her pediatrician. Afterwards, the medical assistant returned with her shots. The first vaccine was for Rotavirus, which is an oral vaccine. She tasted it, and immediately started crying as if she remembered something from the past. I think she knew what comes next isn't very fun. She was very good sport, of course, but while I was holding her, she just kept looking back at me with pleading teary eyes. So sad. Truthfully, I think it was harder on Curtis than on Emma; he doesn't tolerate her crying very well. Emma got over the ordeal rather quickly, and now we won't need to worry about it until she's 12 months old.

Emma doesn't roll over much, except side-to-side mostly, but she has good head control and likes to stand when we support her. She still babbles a lot and has the cutest giggles. Lately, we have been working on getting her to nap and sleep at night on her own, and those efforts have led to tears at times. When she's laid down, Emma fights sleep. So far, our worst experience having her cry it out has only been about 18 minutes (and Curtis wasn't home for it, thank goodness). Hopefully, she'll learn to suck her thumb sooner. Once she falls asleep, though, she sleeps well, and since she goes to bed around 6:30 each night, Curtis and I get some quiet time in the evenings.

We are still working on getting her to eat solid food. It's still a little early, so we're not pushing it too much, but she doesn't care much for the taste of cereal. And the one time we fed her some strained carrots, she vomited. I don't care much for the taste of the strained baby foods, either, so why should she?
