Emma Update

Emma is almost 6 months old! How is that possible? She is at this very moment still napping.... giving me two hours so far of quiet time to work. She still does not like to nap during the day, but we're trying for consistency, and so far her sleeping habits are improving. We'll have an official 6-month update in a couple of weeks when we go back to the pediatrician, but I think she's well over two feet long and approaching 14 pounds.

In the past few weeks, Emma has:
  • tasted rice cereal, and did not like it very much the first time - she wrinkled up her nose and then pushed it out of her mouth with her tongue - but subsequently, she has eaten as much as I have given her. We don't feed her cereal every day, only when I'm bored, really. She watches us as we eat and seems to be very interested in what goes into our mouth.
  • started playing with learning toys. I finally got her an Exersaucer and by the second time in it, she was having a fun time in it. She also has a toy table that lights up and makes sounds and music - she particularly likes it when I put it on the floor in front of her. She pushes all the buttons with her feet.

  • been practicing rolling over. She can roll stomach to back, but still doesn't try rolling over from back to her stomach.

  • been very interested in her hands. She will often study her left hand, holding it out in front of her, for several minutes at a time, before she puts her fingers in her mouth.

  • improved her napping. Now I am able to get a couple of hours alone during the day while she sleeps. Yay!

  • read tons of books. She loves it when we read to her. When we read something out aloud, she'll often join in with her own recitation.

  • babbled and laughed our ears off, and we love it!
