Bits and pieces

Happy birthday to my dear friend, Sharissa, in SLC! I hope you have a great day. Sharissa is one of the most accomplished, amazing people I know.

Wednesday evening we visited with Curtis' Uncle Maurice and Aunt Jody, whom we don't see very often. They live in Mesa, exactly 18.2 miles from our house, according to Carol (our GPS system). Curtis has wanted to go visit Uncle Maurice ever since he moved to Phoenix from Las Vegas (in 2000!). Their names came up on Wednesday in a conversation, and I urged him to call and set an appointment to visit, so we don't let it slip again. It ended up they were okay with our visit that evening. Our little visit made me more resolved to visit our elders. My mother is such a good example of this, having visited and taken care of all the single elderly women in her ward at church until they all passed away. We had a nice visit with Uncle M and Aunt J. Uncle Maurice has a great sense of humor, and still works every day, at the age of 82. Aunt Jody is looking forward to roadtripping up to Rexburg in a few weeks.

We drove to Mesa last night, so Curtis could help Matt and Cassie unload their belongings into their new home. It was Erick's 2nd birthday, and he got a "new" home! Matt had 12 men from their Laveen ward show up to help load up the U-haul truck. At the other end, about 8 or 9 men and boys showed up to help unload the truck in Mesa. This is an amazing act of service, given that these men and boys had never even met Matt and Cassie. I'm always very amazed and grateful for the service of church members. Having managed people at work, I know how difficult it is to get this kind of dedication even when people are paid. I appreciate that people are willing to do work for free!
